Finished the first of many, this piece hints at the new direction I'm planning on following for the foreseeable future. Its called Shadowmen Bully The Small, based on a small sketch I did two years ago before I detoured on my arty abstract experimental pieces.
Any thoughts appreciated. I'm hoping to get another underway before the end of the weekend - similar sort figurative and loose work.

Whoa, yeah!!! I've really missed your paintings, Dio. How does it feel to get back to it?
This one has that great, ambiguously threatening atmosphere you're so good at creating. Reminds me a little of the Pinheads. I love the grisaille look with just the tiny bit of color out the window. Regarding your opinion about the use of color (in your previous entry), I would never have guessed you weren't comfortable using it- I think you handle color wonderfully. Can't wait to see more new works!
Great new direction Dio, are you writing a dark children's book ala Edward Gorey to accompany it?
I love the use of shadow...they've appeared in a lot of my older stuff, like this one: http://www.elisetomlinson.com/photos/NightTrain.jpg
Anyway, I think it's very cool indeed that you're back to work. And I agree with Holly, you have a great sense of color so don't be afraid, though work in black and white is intriguing as well and give a different feel.
what made you call it a shadowman?
Nephthys - I've done a few of them over the years, I have a number of recurring characters, and the Shadowmen are one of them. It's simply because they're men made of shadows. :)
