Amazing footage of an Gaint Octopus having a ding dong with a shark. It doesn't end well, so if your upset by animal snuffage then please don't watch. However, for an insight into an incredible world we're only just scratching the surface of, take a look. Video Here.
I wonder if this behaviour replicates itself in the natural world? It took them a while to figure it out in a tank, one can only imagine how long it would take to see it the open seas. In a strange way, the narration reminded me of the sea creature version of this famous Urban Legend.

That's fascinating, not to mention a little eery to watch. How does it then go about eating them?
Hey, me again, bad link on the Urban Legend link - there's an http// where there shouldn't be... ;)
Cheers, I really should just check my links when I make a post, but I'm lazy at times.
As for the octopus, I guess it just holds on and nibbles where ever it's at.
OK, I was sure the shark was going to win this one. I've been trying to muster the gumption to click the damn link...
Hey Dio, here's a link to an article from our main news rag here in Alaska about giant octopussys. http://marine.alaskapacific.edu/octopus/ADN990724-JLittle.html
It mentions something I actually saw with my own eyes in a documentary about them. Everynight at this marine center the employees would wonder what were happening to crabs that were disappearing out of various tanks. Finally they set up a camera and found that at night this one octopus was crawling out of his tank, holding his breath, pulling himself along the floor to tanks on the opposite side of the room, crawling up into the tanks with the crabs, eating them and then crawling back to its tank.
No shit, it was amazing. I saw the octopus they are referring to in the above story. It was very cool.
Let me try again with that link http://marine.alaskapacific.edu/octopus/ADN990724-JLittle.html
Great little article Elise, I think I heard about that floor walking Octopus myself. I saw a fascinating one on them a few years back which had them negotiating underwater obstacle courses (BBC thing I think). I think its fair to say they are the Squirrels of the deep...
Holly, its worth a look, it not gruesome or anything, but I know people get upset by those kind of things, hence the warning. Its quite fascinating really.
...aaaaand it's REAL PLAYER, which won't work for me!! Waah! I want to see the shark snuff it!
