Monster Mayhem - Giant Squid Photographed And Monster Toys

A couple of nice sightings this morning, the first is a photograph of the mysterious Giant Squid, photographed live for the first time ever.

The second is a gallery full of wonderful old plastic monster toys.

Oh man! The monster toys gallery is fab!! I think drugs must have been better in the 70s, because you had things like this. Actually, they look like my students.

Looking into the 90s, I am proud (or dorkish) to say I own the McFarlane playsets for the Werewolf, Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Mummy. I also have a couple Skeleton Warriors around, but they suck. I also have a kick-ass Nosferatu playset (it came with lots of tiny rats!), but I don't see it listed. It sure isn't the hideously camp (yet strangely beautiful)Nosferatu. Is it Max Schreck? No! It's Klaus Kinski! No, it's Willem DaFoe-- in drag! Wheeee! What a great site!

Oo! another good catch! ;) I heard about this on the late news while falling asleep and would have forgotten it ... thanks.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by it's supposed "giant-ness" but interested how the Japanese photographers ended up with those "detached" tentacles. Then I remembered ... CALAMARI!! :D
